How to set up X Forwarding

So, i’m trying to connect (graphically) from my windows machine to a remote linux server.

On the Linux server,

  1. make sure X11 Forwarding is set to yes in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
  2. download and install xauth (and xclock if you want)

One the Windows machine,

  1. download and install xming
  2. start up xming by double-clicking the xming icon
  3. open or start up putty (you should have had putty installed – windows)
  4. within putty enable X11 forwarding (see diagram below)

Once you login to the linux server, run the xclock command and you should see below

Now you have X forwarded
