In this modern day and age, information technology plays a big role if not every role???
However, if you’re not in the field of information technology, it’s easy to be completely ignorant of just how information technology touches your life.
For those who don’t know, information technology (I.T) is the study and use of systems for storing, retrieving, and sending information. This can include software, hardware, applications, and so much more. Much of what people use in the 21st century was created with help from I.T.
Almost every business use I.T.
We’re talking government, banking, casinos, Tesla, phone companies, education, and even healthcare have all been redesigned thanks to information technology
With the introduction of computers, the business world was changed forever. Using computers and software, businesses use information technology to ensure that their departments run smoothly. They use I.T in a number of different departments including human resources, finance, manufacturing, and security.
I.T in businesses has created the ability to view changes in the global markets far faster than they usually do. They purchase software packages and hardware that helps them get their job done. Most large businesses have their own I.T department designed to upkeep the software and hardware. It has allowed businesses to keep up with the supply and demand as consumers grow more anxious to have their items instantly. Using I.T, businesses like Amazon are working to help busy consumers do their grocery shopping.
In the financial world it’s made businesses more inclusive (I can sell that jacket on eBay and faster too, more transactions are taking place and the need to ensure that the customers information is safe. In healthcare we have our data at the fingertips of the doctors without having to resort to going through stacks of files.
All these have generally increased a million-fold the amount of IT jobs out there and all of the above is ever-increasing therefore jobs WILL more often than not be more available in this sector as opposed to other sectors.
The jobs? …are really “super” rewarding too and I just don’t mean financially too. You are the expert on how computers, networks, and software all come together to allow a company to function. Most people within the business don’t have this knowhow. Every corporation now relies on technology to conduct day-to-day business. It simply cannot take or process orders, pay employees, pay vendors, communicate with customers, advertise their services or even track inventory without the help of technology. In IT, you are the person maintaining all of that infrastructure and it can be really rewarding to see how your knowledge helps a business to function.

I have always had love for I.T growing up… so even though I am well schooled in earth sciences I found myself rather drawn to this lovely field even as a kid… I started by doing a stint in as a Certified Cisco Network Admin. I have done lot of work on the infrastructure side in Linux system administration, Hardware, Storage (EMC and NetApp), and Datacenter management
- Currently I’m working on the Systems team of NASA in greenbelt.
- I’m always looking for ways to live the life to my full potential by constantly learning new things to improve myself. I’m a strong believer in sharing the knowledge with others.
